Music is one of the most widely studied disciplines in the world, and yet no scalable infrastructure exists to develop and measure aural skills. Students practice without feedback or benchmarks. Institutions cannot meet demand with the systems they have. The result is that the foundational layer of musicianship is left almost entirely to chance, and to whoever happened to have access to a conservatory-grade education.

3,609,698 American public school students have no access to school music education. For scale, South Korea’s 2026 budget for culture, sports and tourism is ₩7.85 trillion, about US$5.4 billion (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; The Korea Herald, 2025). Those students are not distributed randomly. When arts funding contracts, it contracts hardest where there is least to fall back on. A family with means hires a teacher; a family without means watches their child stop. There is genuine movement in the other direction, including California's Proposition 28 and UNESCO's 2024 Framework for Culture and Arts Education, but the gap is still measured in millions of students.

Solfera takes the one part of musical training that scales, the ear, and makes it available at a standard that used to require a conservatory. It works alongside teachers, school programs, and public funding for the arts rather than in place of them. That is a narrow claim, and we would rather make a narrow claim we can keep.
